Kenny Family ShopRites Presents $50,000 to

Food Bank of Delaware

Thanks to the generosity of ShopRite customers, the Kenny Family ShopRites

presented a check for $50,000 to the Food Bank of Delaware this morning at the family’s

newest store on the Christina Riverfront in Wilmington.

The contribution is a result of ShopRite’s Check-Out Hunger campaign, a regional

fundraising campaign that takes place in hundreds of grocery retailers in the Mid-Atlantic

area during the months of October through January. Retailers ask customers to make

donations upon checking out in increments of $1, $3 or $5.

Of all ShopRite stores participating in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania,

Connecticut and New York, the Kenny family’s four ShopRite stores all placed within the

top ten for donations.

The Delaware ShopRite stores, 2 percent of the ShopRite chain, raised 10 percent of ShopRite’s chain wide donations.

“We’re proud to present this check to the Food Bank of Delaware,” said Chris Kenny, Chief Financial Officer of the Kenny Family ShopRites of Delaware and Food Bank of Delaware Board Member. “We know that thousands of Delawareans are struggling to make ends meet and as an organization we are committed to making sure that no Delawarean goes without a meal.”

“This incredibly generous contribution comes at time when food donations are down, but demand is up,” said Food Bank of Delaware President and CEO Patricia Beebe. “Since Check-Out Hunger’s inception in 2001, ShopRite customers have donated close to $400,000 to ending hunger in Delaware. We are so grateful for their continued support throughout the years.”
