Donte Brown is one of 11 students currently enrolled in the L.O.G.I.C program – a certified trade school by the Delaware Department of Education that prepares students for careers in warehousing and logistics. Students receive training on various warehouse machinery and earn four certifications including Certified Logistics Associate and Certified Logistics Technician Credentials from the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council, the OSHA-10 General Industry Certificate, and a Forklift Certification.

Family is a core tenet for Donte, and he learned about the program through his cousin who is a L.O.G.I.C. graduate and now working in the industry. His cousin encouraged him to enroll in order to make a career change, and now, Donte and his classmates are 9 weeks into the 14-week program, and they have learned valuable skills both inside and outside of the warehouse.

Donte feels confident using his favorite piece of equipment, the pallet jack. “It’s fun to move food from one end of the giant warehouse to another,” he said. Outside the warehouse, he and his peers receive instruction on life skills— from the basics of interviewing to the importance of communication and teamwork.

Equipped with this wide array of skills, Donte is optimistic: “I want to find a job, take care of my son,” he shared.  Donte hopes this program will help him stay on the right path for the rest of his life. He now wants to seek opportunity and advocate for himself.
