Modeled after the Discover Cafe at the Food Bank of Delaware’s Newark headquarters, the Milford Branch’s cafe will provide an on-the-job training opportunity for students participating in the 14-week culinary training program.

Students will be exposed to skills like customer service, food costing and preparation, using point-of-sale systems, menu development and more. In addition to providing an in-class training opportunity, the cafe will also serve as an employment opportunity for some graduates.

The cafe will not only provide a place for Food Bank supporters and local residents to grab a bite to eat, but will also serve as an outlet to sell fresh produce grown in the new community garden. Menu items like soups, salads and sandwiches will also feature fresh foods from the garden.

Proceeds from cafe sales will benefit student scholarships to the training program and support the ongoing production of fresh produce in the garden.
